Permian Collects Knock Out Win Over Lee

ODESSA - Permian administered a steady dose of Mojo baseball to knock out Midland Lee 11-4 on Friday at McCanlies Field.  The Panthers recorded an error-free effort in the District 2-6A victory.

britoThe two light-heavyweights exchanged jabs in the opening frame, with neither dishing out a lot of damage. Permian handed out the first one-two punch in the bottom of the second inning. Tanner Adams led off with a walk, and Keatyn Armstrong followed with a shot to right field. Noey Brito grounded out to advance Adams and Armstrong into scoring position. Taylor Sullivan delivered the first punch with a two-run RBI single to left field. Christian Tschauner finished the combination with another RBI shot to left field to give the Panthers an early 3-0 lead.

The Rebels took advantage of two base hits, a pair of walks, and a hit batter in the top of the third to narrow the Mojo lead to 3-1.

Permian put Midland Lee on the ropes... and canvas... in the bottom of the third frame.  Caden Bedrick led off with a walk, and stood on second base after the next batter grounded out. An Adams base hit advanced Bedrick to third to put runners on the corners with one out. An Armstrong RBI single, coupled with a Brito RBI double staggered the Rebels and made it a 5-1 ballgame.

Mojo continued to deliver deflating punches. Sullivan stepped up to the plate and launched a two-run RBI double to score Armstrong and Brito. Isaiah Flores slapped an RBI single to left field to complete a five-run third inning and extend the lead to 8-1.

Lee got back in the fight in the fifth inning, racking up three runs. Permian matched the three run inning in the bottom of the sixth. The Rebels were unable to answer the bell in the last at-bat, resulting in the Panthers' 11-4 unanimous decision and district victory.

Peyton Hutson got the start for the Panthers, striking out four through four innings.  Tyler Ramage finished the game in relief, while allowing the Rebels no runs.
