Permian Hands Lubbock Christian 4-3 Loss
Thursday, March 29, 2018 09:03

LUBBOCK - Coming off of yesterday's emotional one-run victory over the Bulldogs, Permian utilized a series of base hits in the fourth inning to defeat Lubbock Christian this afternoon. The 4-3 non-district win sends the Panthers into the Easter weekend on a two-game win streak.

floresPermian faced its first test of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Lubbock Christian hit three consecutive base hits to load the bases with one out. A bloop shot to second baseman Jayden Salcido was turned into a double play to end the scoring threat.

While the Panthers were unable to get on the scoreboard through three innings, the Eagles posted the game's first two runs in the bottom of the third. Two base hits, a walk, and a balk had Mojo trailing 2-0.  Christian LaChance took over pitching duties for Noey Brito, who had got the start, to get the last two outs.

Staying focused on the task at hand, Permian responded with three runs in the top of the fourth frame. Daniel Enriquez got aboard on a base hit to centerfield. After stealing second base, Enriquez made it to third on a groundout by Nate Kizziar. LaChance reached first base on the next play and also plated Mojo's first run. Salcido followed with a single, and Isaiah Flores slapped a shot to centerfield to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.

After a quiet fifth inning, the Panthers and Eagles traded punches in the sixth inning with each adding a run. Kizziar led off with a single and LaChance was hit by a pitch to place two runners on. Manny Guerrero drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Kizziar was able to steal home to give Permian a 4-2 lead. Lubbock Christian matched the run on a Mojo fielding error and hit to right field.

The Panthers managed to get two runners on in the top of the seventh, but both were left stranded. The Eagles led off the bottom half with a single, but pitcher Tyler Ramage and the Permian defensive gloves put the clamps on to preserve the 4-3 decision.
