Mojo Finishes Off Midland Bulldogs
Thursday, March 29, 2018 02:02

ODESSA - On Tuesday, Permian watched a 6-1 fourth inning lead evaporate at Zachary Field. The Panthers proved they learned their lesson this afternoon at McCanlies Field. Midland High tried to rally back from a 6-1 second inning, but Mojo snuffed out the Bulldog threat in a 7-6 district victory.

adamsMidland High converted a pair of walks and an RBI double to post their first run in the opening at-bat. Permian responded with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Manny Guerrero led off with a walk and scored on Tanner Adam's RBI double to right field. Christian Tschauner followed with an RBI base hit to plate Adams.

Senior pitcher Peyton Hutson got the start for the Panthers and retired the three Bulldog batters in order in the top of the second frame. Unfortunately for Midland High, the bottom half wouldn't be so kind to them as Permian sent all nine batters to the plate and collected four runs in the process.

After getting on base with back-to-back walks, Isaiah Flores and Guerrero were joined by Caden Bedrick when he singled to right field. Adams doubled to centerfield and the bases were again full after Tschauner was hit by a pitch. An RBI double to left field by Daniel Enriquez extended the Mojo lead to 6-1.

The Bulldogs narrowed the deficit in the top of the third frame. An RBI double, a pair of base hits, and two walks were good for three runs to make it a 6-4 ballgame. The Panthers answered with a pair of two-baggers in the bottom of the inning to push the lead back to three runs.

Batters from both teams were sat down in order in the fourth inning.  Three infield grounders and three strikeouts left Permian still leading 7-4.

Things got dicey in the top of the fifth inning. Midland High loaded the bases after a hit batter and two walks. Guerrero took over pitching duties and handed out the first out on a strikeout. A fielder's choice and groundout ended the Bulldog threat, but two runners made it across the plate to cut the Mojo lead to 7-6.

Midland High failed to get any closer, as neither team could add to their tally.  Permian outhit the Bulldogs 10 to 6.  Mojo will travel to Lubbock tomorrow for a non-district tilt with Lubbock Christian.  District action will resume next Tuesday at Midland Lee.
